12 As

Alhamdulillah..

It was an awesome 1st term result which should boost her confidence in maintaining her good grades. 12 out of 13 As. Superb! [a little background :: her school is both KSSR(4 subjects) and PSRA(7 subjects) combined + a few other school level subjects (namely Geography, Iqra' and Practical Ibadah)]

We were the first to arrived (nampak beno excitednya) and Teacher Gee was quick to point out all her results.. Tebal weh buku record diorang.. I guess they are doing a good job with the school based assessment thing. And due to that, we can't bring back her exam papers. So Mommy dengan kiasu (dan tak malu) nya mintak nak take pictures.

The second row shows her results. Not bad at all considering all her results are above her class average. And the last line is the projection for her next semester.. Hahaha.. Abesla pressure!! But yeah, she said so herself that she is happy with her results and I told her what needs be is for her to maintain it all. InsyaAllah, I believe together we can do it.

Mommy and Papa are so proud of you Kakak! May you continue to shine and be the best you can be in whatever you choose to venture..

Jannah's PTC

Early last week, we went over to her school to sit down with her teachers on how she is doing so far. Alhamdulillah, her overall scores are above 95%. The one and only problem for this first term exam was her English, which isn't exactly English per se but more of writing (which again we all know is Jannah's least favourite activity). [her scores were 100% for both science and arabic / jawi, 98% for maths, 96% for BM and pendidikan islam and 86% for english]

As it is, with Jannah I know I can't even begin to compare her with Aliah. So, with that knowledge in hand I was less kiasu with her. I honestly didn't have any expectations for her. [not that she can't but Jannah is different that way - she keeps on surprising you with her abilities although they are not academic. and even then, I have to say it was a pleasant surprise to see her with the 95% average]

The long discussion we had with her teacher that day was more on her social development. I know something is not right as J has been reluctant  to go to school this past month. And true enough, she does not seem to be happy with her peers in class. She has friends, but they are all from other classes. She is a bit of a sore thumb with her own classmates as (1) they have all been friends since they were 3 and she is sort of the newbie and (2) she speaks in English where as most of them converse in Malay. I have to say, the whole of last week it bothered me that Jannah was going through what I went through in my teens. [in all honesty, my way out then was to leave and go to boarding school - but J is a little to small for that :P and even so, I don't think taking her out from the environment is going to help her in the long run.]

We (as in both us and the teachers) agreed that we need to handle Jannah differently. Make all the fun things  in school outweigh the peer issues. Alhamdulillah, this week has been better [as in less crankiness and cengeng-ness]. Hopefully we'll see some more improvement.

Came back to find this waiting for me :)

...this weekend is Aliah's PTC pulak... *hyperventilate*

Amir's Aqiqah

Finally got it done! Unlike Jannah's which we did on the 14th day, we couldn't find the right time to do Amir's earlier. Bermacam halangan berlaku.. But Alhamdulillah, last weekend it was a done deal.

This is the first time we've done a kenduri this big at our own place. Aliah's aqiqah was done at kampung while Jannah's was at Mama's. I panicked, because for one the house is serabut! Plus, the whole idea of doing it while I was still on maternity leave didn't materialise so I didn't get to clean up the house so to speak. Hence, beria lah took leave nak kemas rumah.

Because I have like beratus family, a khemah was necessary. Hence terdengar orang komen, "macam nak sambut menantu". Yeah, I can only imagine when the time comes for that!

Reflecting

Again, reading up old posts.. Found this one which I think needs to be put up again as a reminder.. (this was from Aug 2005)

Btw, that growth is still there.. And it is no more thyroid related. Masih procrastinate to do anything about it. Heh..

This week has been trying and tiring.

The news from the doctors' last week and the busy schedule for this week has taken a toll on me and also on Hubby. He has been so busy with his on going project. Going to sub-con's site in the wee hours of the nite, working till subuh. And then having to deal with me and my crankiness lagi. Memang it was betul2 menduga our relationship. I hated the fact that he has to work late, pastu balik sambung buat keje lagi. I was also kinda sad (read : terasa) that he didn't go to the hospital with me last week. I know he had that important meeting and I do understand that, tapi kan when you're being told that something is wrong with you, you want your loved ones to be with you. At least, Mama & Papa was with me at that time.. so, ok la skit. Kalau aku kena pegi sorang2.. aku rasa mau aku nangis2 je the whole time. (Hubby sayang, I'm not trying to make you feel guilty tau. Am just stating it as it is. Don't worry about it.. I'm ok with it now)

Where was I?Ya rabbi, cik puan nana has digressed. Anyway, the point I was trying to make was we were so busy and so absorbed with what was happening in our own lives that we forgot to give support to the other. So, we sat down and had a talk. We came up with a plan. And the plan was, we'll set aside one night each week for an 'us' time. Tak kire la, movie ke.. jalan2 ke.. fancy schmancy dinner ke. Just the 2 of us. Out on a date. Some people may say, skarang ni boleh lagi la.. Aliah kecik lagi, belum paham ape2. But in my opinion, you'll need to make it work somehow. Have to. Kena jugak cuba. Kalau tak cuba, camne nak make it work? Tul tak? I guess I am luckier in the sense that I have a live in maid. So, anytime we feel like going for our 'dates' we could. Although, most of the time one of us will be feeling so the very guilty pasal kena tinggalkan Aliah for the whole day. Imagine je la kan, when we leave for work in the morning dia baru je bangun. And if we do go out after work, by the time we get back, she's fast asleep. I don't blame her kalau dia bangun tengah2 malam merengek and suddenly just wants to talk. And that little girl can really talk now! Her blabbering, her humming, her screams. I know she just wants our attention. And I also just found out the reason she wakes up at night and cries is because she's afraid of the dark. Aiyoo.. digress lagi.

I'm lucky that Hubby is the kind of guy who is willing to discuss stuff. We can talk about everything. Even about the things we're not happy with each other. I'm so very thankful I married him

8 yrs down the road, we still manage to make time for an "us" time.. and we can still talk about everything. Alhamdulillah...

4 months!

Muka amat cuak sedang tunggu turn at the paeds

Amir had his check-up. Everything is good. Doc did say however his weight gain is not proportionate to his head and height growth. Haha!

To date, he is the most talkative of all my 3 babies. Even will call out (not cry) for you if he's been left alone too long and wants some company.

Very seldom do we get to see him roll over as he seems too busy and engrossed with whatever it is he is playing (most likely his gym or one of his soft toy - snakey, elephant, dragon).

Love to watch him watch kak Jannah jump and run around. You can see his I-cant-wait-to-join expression. (fyi, Jannah is also much more receptive towards Amir nowdays)

Nightfeeds are still haywire. Sometimes he wakes up only once, but most of the time it still is 2-3 feeds each night.

Current stats ::
Weight - 6.25kg
Length - 62cm
Head circ - 40.5cm

Sudoku!

Again, they (as in BeiZ) deserve a post because they managed to capture J's interest in learning.

I love sudoku. And I had hope that the kids will enjoy it too. So when this app (Lola's Fruit Shop Sudoku) came out quite some time ago I immediately bought it. Aliah of coz got the hang of it immediately. Lately, I noticed J has started playing it too. And she plays it well I might add.

Started of with the simple 3x3 fruit box, she's now a pro with the 4x4 numbers grid. And yes, a tussle of whose turn is it will always always happen when either one of them start playing it.

Zombie Kg Bangi

That is how I have been feeling the past week.. You see, last Thursday J started getting spots on her body. And the fear that they caught the virus from their cousin came true. The household has caught the chicken pox! And true enough, Kakak started showing symptoms the next day. *sigh*

So what does that have anything to do with the title you say? Well, check out my night routine;
1130pm - Amir asleep after night feed
1230am - Kakak woke up due to itchy-ness, wants a warm bath and calamine lotion
0130am - Kakak tidur
0200am - J pulak bangun, cranky and of sorts. Wants milk and Mommy
0300am - J finally asleep again
0400am - Amir up for his next feed and decides he wants to play :P
0530am - Amir goes back to sleep finally!
0620am - Up for Subuh

Luckily, the worst was during the weekend. Hence I got some break during the day to catch up on some sleep.. But it is no where near enough. Haha!

To date, Alhamdulillah Amir hasn't caught it. Kalau tak, confirm lagi huru hara. But I am ready in the eventuality that he might catch it too.

:: Trivia Facts on Chicken Pox ::
*it is known as Cacar Air in Malay and not Demam Campak (which is actually Measles)
*the most contagious period is actually 2-3 days BEFORE the spots are visible, although a person is still contagious until the blisters have crusted
*you will show signs of having the disease 10-21 days after initial contact with person with chicken pox. Hence, the misconception that it is contagious at the point of dah nak baik.
*generally, you will get it only once in your lifetime (though cases of repeated cases are heard of in adults - and it is then called shingles)
*the immunization for chicken pox does not mean you won't get it at all. It just means that the attack won't be as bad (30-50 spots as compared to hundreds) and less recovery time (5-7 days compared to 14-20 days)

School Issues

[this is a belated post]

started writing on 25 March

Both Kakaks are starting their first term exam tomorrow. Mommy already in kiasu mode. I'm worried about Aliah, walaupon tau she can sebenarnya. She has this tendency to "forget". Tu tak termasuk carelessness lagi tu.

I've told her, as long as I know and she knows that she tried her best. I will be OK. (pls repeat this mantra Nana!)

My bigger worry this time is actually Jannah. Received a call from her teacher, telling me about what happened in school. She had a major meltdown in school last Thursday and refused to go to school on Friday. Apparently, dia kena marah with both her teachers that day. Came home all red eyed and bad mood. And in all honesty it is giving me a headache right now thinking about it. I hope my pep-talk to her when she's sleeping works out.

When ask, she says school is not fun anymore. And I think some of the dynamics of how her class was last year has changed as compared to this year. Plus, they were doing a lot of revision for the exams hence a lot of writing (no surprise that it is Jannah's least favorite activity in school)

to date

Last Monday, on the first day of exam I had to sort of drag her out of bed, into the shower. But once she was already in her school uniform, her tantrum and cries stopped. All the while I was coaxing her with all the ways I could think of. Finally, when I mentioned her school bag and all her other school stuff that she herself chose and bought barulah dia relent. And skipped (yes, skipped) happily to school.

A chat with her teacher the next day said that she was back to being her old self and did all the writing (exam mode kan) without much fuss. So, hopefully it will be OK after this.

Aliah's last paper was on Friday and I think she did fairly OK. Kalau tanya dia semuanya lah "senang kacang". But I am trying my best not to hyperventilate and go all kiasu - yet! Let's see first how she does. ;)
