He is O.N.E!

My goodness me! How time flies. It feels like only yesterday I was still going for my check-ups. It feels like only yesterday we checked-in for his delivery. It feels only yesterday I was crying when Doc Kham brought him out of my tummy. (note :: I didn't cry during the Kakaks' time).

And he's already 1 now! Lucky me I get to see him grow up. Even then I still feel that everything is going on a fast forward phase.

To date, he has started walking.

To date, he has started talking. Jibberish. But yeah, still talking. Some things we understand. Some we don't.

To date, he has no teeth yet. Not a single one. 

To date, he is a boy with a healthy appetite. Makan makan makan. Lepas makan, makan lagi. Orang lain makan, makan lagi. And yet, it makes me wonder how come he is still so small.

To date, he is still fully breastfed. An achievement for him. And also for me!

Every single day, he continues to amaze us. I can't wait to see what he will be up to next!

Dearest Amir Ibrahim, may you grow up to be a good Muslim. A leader. An innovator. The best in whatever you choose to be and do. Mommy, Papa, Kakak and Kak Jannah loves you so very much.

Major Milestone Achieved!!

Alhamdulillah.. 

Amir achieved one of his major milestones to date! He has started taking steps. Woohooo!! Go Baby Boy! 

He's been unwell the past week, with on-off fever and a bad cough and cold. So much so that he has lost some weight! And now it seems all the sickness was because he was gearing himself up for this major milestone. 

Having a sick Amir is no fun yo. He is one of the "whiny I want Mommy melekap ala koala bear non-stop" types when he is sick. A new one for me as a Mommy too, as the 2 sisters usually sleep when they are sick. Hence, I too am feeling a bit off. 

So, in comparing milestones (I know we're not supposed to compare our kids - but where's the fun in that?); Amir & Jannah both started walking right before they turned 1. Aliah a bit later at 13 months. And Amir is still champion at having no teeth at all. :)

Amir Boo Boy

Yeah.. Panjang betul nama panggilan dia sekarang. Haha.. But honestly, I normally call him by his full name.

He turned 11 months last week. How time flies! He's grown into such a little man now. Expressing himself, blabbering non-stop, crawling all over the place.

Adores his two sisters who in turn adores him back. They have such a good time playing together although every couple of minutes or so you'd hear Kak Jannah reprimanding him. And then he'll cry and then Kak Jannah pujuk balik and then they'll play again. And cycle repeats all day. Funny.

He is cruising along now. And tatih mcm pro dah. Can sit from a standing position and vice versa. I'm trying to get him to take steps but as it is he's still a wee bit reluctant. Although Kakak claims he took 2 steps the other day.

He points and waves and gives high-fives and says "daaah" when he's done eating or taking a bath. And he's starting to give out flying kisses too (although this one can be mistaken as a Red Indian holler).

He's not gained much weight eventhough he eats a lot! And I mean A LOT! Pantang nampak orang makan dia nak jugak. He's grown taller though and is taller than the sisters were at this age.

Alhamdulillah he is still fully breastfed. And achievement for me too! :)

His birthday is coming up soon... Sekejap je dah setahun..

Of Tataya and Tanana

There is a lot to tell and again I don't know where to start.

Aliah has done well for this year in school. Alhamdulillah. And with her it is always easy.

Jannah on the other hand needs a lot of attention and guidance from me. So part of this school holiday program is to drill with her the basics. She's got a tough year ahead of her if she wants to be in SA.

Their final exam results were both good though. Improvement. Aliah sbb dah memang excellent tak nampak sangat but J's Bs and Cs are now As and Bs.

Aliah had 7 100%, 2 98%, a 95%, a 94% a 92% and a 88% making it a total of 13As all together. Alhamdulillah.

Finally

... longest silence ever and thus I don't know where to begin.
... obviously A WHOLE LOT of things happened and I can't even remember half of it.
... I am hoping it will not be another bout of silence again after this.
... and right now I don't even know where to begin.

He's Crawling!!

He started being on all fours a couple of weeks ago. And has since escalated to rocking every opportunity he gets. And rocking.. And rocking.. 

I have begun to think that he's never going to crawl because he seems to like to rock so much! :P 

Anyway, he did! Today~ at EJean's place pulak tu. Memang show off! Hahaha.. 

Still not a pro yet, and most of the time he does it only if there is enough motivation. Like wanting to grab the remote or anything the Kakaks are holding / reading / playing. Yeah.. I can see where this is heading. 

I suspect come Raya, we're in for so much fun (read with sarcasm please!) :P

Post Mortem :: 1 week Ramadhan

:: sleep is an indulgence. between getting J to sleep (which is late) to intermittent wake-ups by Amir and waking up for sahur. daytime naps are not helping though as weird dreams seems to disturb the sleep. wake up feeling more tired.

:: solat terawikh checked although buat kat rumah je.

:: Aliah had a gastric attack on 2nd Ramadhan. Hence, 2 hari tak puasa.

:: Jannah has not grasp the puasa concept at all.

:: been to the PaRam twice so far. Alhamdulillah membeli tanpa membazir. And food was good too.

:: syukur that I am a SAHM now, else logistics for Aliah and Jannah to and from school would have been a nightmare. Lagilah traffic this Ramadhan seems to be at its worst.

:: mood memasak kurang this time around as am only cooking for 2. Hubby is on a diet program and can't eat almost everything. Haha. But Alhamdulillah he has lost 3.4kgs so far. Not bad for a week's job.

:: kids raya clothes are almost all set. But still have not scout around for Amir's songkok and sampin. Perlu? Ke abaikan?

:: brestfeeding this Ramadhan has been good so far. Masih cukup. Plus Amir eats 3x a day and mostly drinks at night when replenishments can be done. Water. Lots and lots of water. I also believe the fenugreeks work. Again, mind over matter this. :)

One Month+ Weaning

Much as it irks the paed, I am sticking to taking it slow and steady in introducing food for Amir. For the first month or so, he was totally on fruits & veg. And only when he started eating three times a day did we introduce oats. (we tried brown rice, but was fiercely rejected by the little guy)

The introduction phase was with fruits. And we started with apples and pears. And then added bananas to the mix. Avocados is still a volatile option, only taken with bananas. The first veg was sweet potato which Amir loves. To date, give him a sweet potato meal and it will never be enough! He's also tried carrots and potatoes. 

Once a day meal lasted for a week. Haha. He was thaaaat receptive towards eating. And then it was twice a day, one for breakfast and one for dinner.

When he turned 7 months, I tried brown rice. And was rejected. Haha. So tried oats, and he loved it. But cannot la eat oats je kan, kata Melayu kena la makan nasi gak. So tried again rice this week, and was rejected again. Hahahaha. Ah well, like my BFF pointed out - he's gonna have his whole life ahead of him of rice eating. Btw, he loves his oats with any fruit puree.

So as per the listing, these are the things he has eaten to date;

Exam Results

Alhamdulillah.. Alhamdulillah.. Alhamdulillah..

Syukur for Aliah's great result. 100% score for 10 out of 12 subjects. All As to boot. No 2 in class, and No 3 in school. Friendly competitiveness with her bffs are definitely a good trait.

Mommy's kiasu-ness paid off. Haha. Extremely proud of her. The coaching helped. The instilling of self-confidence too. But mostly it was her. Being attentive in class, able to capture all lessons and asking questions when in doubt.

And now comes the hard part - maintaining it!

AND the harder part is getting Jannah on the same track.

I still have not put any expectations for her exams. I have not sat down with her to "study" together. And her hot-cold attitude towards school is still a issue.

Even so, she achieved 90+ marks for BM, BI, Science and Islamic Studies. Alhamdulillah. The *facepalm* scores were for Maths (70+) and Arabic / Jawi (60+).

Me thinks I need to (1) have more confidence in her ability. (2) spend more time making learning fun for her. (3) be more attuned to her strong / weak subjects.

All in all, Mommy has her work cut out for her for the coming finals. Err.. Ni siapa yang nak exam sebenarnya ni?

7 months!

Again. Time flies when you are having fun. And I am. Most definitely. :)

And Amir is growing by leaps n bounds. I am thankful everyday that I am not missing out on his development like the 2 sisters. I am glad that I am here to see his first everything.

Among his milestones this month includes:

• lunge forward and a lot of reverse motions

• jabbers and jabbers

• drag object towards himself

• Sits without support

• Reaches for things with a sweeping motion

• Imitates speech sounds to a T

• Stands while holding onto something

• claps hands to the Tepuk Amai Amai tune

• recognises those close to him

He's starting to eat 3 meals a day now. And I have to say is constantly hungry. AND he still is getting his milk as usual. He loves to eat. And thus far have not rejected any food in particular.

You'd think he's grown so much from all the eating. But his stats are;

Weight :: 7.1kgs

Length :: 69cm (oddly no diff from month 6)

Night feeds are sparse though. Most nights he sleeps through from 8pm till about 3-4 in the morning. But he is up by 7am latest. Occasionally, he'll have those constantly latched mode, but then I attribute that to growth spurts.

He loves to listen to Itsy Bitsy Spider and Twinkle Twinkle. And off late, Pok Amai - Amai too. To get him to calm down, zikir works best.

And for the next month, I am wondering which milestone he will reach first. Cut a tooth or start crawling. I guess we'll have to see. :)

USS Getaway

It was sort of impromptu, what with getting Amir's passport at the last minute. And it definitely wasn't part of the year's planned out trip. But when an opportunity shows itself up, it would not be a brilliant move to snub it kan?

This would be the first time we tried to manage all 3 kids by ourselves. TRY being the operative word here. Luckily for us, there were many willing babysitters and kidsitters too. ;) [thank you guys!]

The trip itself was enjoyable. The USS was awesome. The company so much more.

We drove to JB on Friday evening. Have to say the kids do not like night time travelling unlike the parents. Haha. We checked-in to New.York.Hotel close to midnight. The reason we were staying there was because they had a package deal incl. accomodation, transport to and from USS and entrance ticket. Not bad I might add. [thank you puan organizer! :) ] It was to be the kids first coach ride and they enjoyed themselves.

Semangat nak berjalan punya pasal, we didn't have problems in waking them early and getting them ready.

By the time we got to USS, orang sikit punya ramai! Luckily, our tickets have been pre-bought. Cuma tinggal pegi guest services counter to get the Express Tix upgrade. Yes, it is SD50 a piece.. But if you factor in the waiting time, AND if you even WANT to go on any rides at all maka sila lah keluarkan duit lebih sikit. Even rides bodo pon ada waiting time of 30-45 minutes.

As Amir was still not viable for most rides, we had to take turns taking the 2 girls. Hence, the express tix was extra handy.

Most rides are pretty awesome. The 4D and 3D attractions are most popular I believe. Specifically the Transformers ride. Aliah even went on the roller coaster ride twice! J decided that she was extra tired and fell asleep by mid afternoon. Good thing too as she was getting reaaalllyyyy cranky and testing Mommy's patience to the max. 

We didn't get to see too many characters though. As it rained twice! Luckily most rides were still accessible.  

All in all, superb quick getaway. 

The thing about going by coach would be that we need to embark-disembark a couple of times. Masa pegi takpe lah lagi. By the time balik, kids dah tak larat. The parents pon dah tak larat. Agak mencabar lah jugak. But it was a good experience. And it proved to us (me and Hubby) that we can manage without the maid. Agak penat. But still viable. 

If we could improve on certain aspects, would definitely want to stay inside Sentosa itself. So we could come back in for the fireworks at night. Or even go back for a quick rest / nap. And come back fresh to attack the rides again. And if we were to come back again, it would be after Amir has reached the 102cm height. So that all of us can go together on the rides. 

Will we go back? Yes, InsyaAllah. :)

Being Busy

It has been a super busy month (June that is) for me, hence no proper posting since 2 weeks ago. You see, my youngest brother got married and seeing that I am the only Kakak around maka I have been the one helping out and making sure all is in order.

But that was only part 1, our part 2 will be after Raya and yes, have started getting busy with that too. In a way, having it spaced out like this is absolutely memenatkan as it is there hovering in your mind for a couple of months. As oppose to this week nikah and next week reception, you'd be thinking and prepping for about a month at most. But yeah, not much can be done seeing that 3 other cousins are also getting married and everyone is scrambling for dates.

Ini pon it will be back to back to back to back receptions after Raya. Talk about tiring! But. I love it. I love having cousins around. I love that our family is big and noisy. We don't get to meet up as often nowdays, thus weddings are the time to meet up and catch up.

Anyway. I lost the point to this blog post. Hahaha.

Oh yes. Brother. Married.

Congratulations Adik.. Marriage is a big step for you. May you become a better person, one who will be able to lead your family to the path of Jannah, insyaAllah. To Yana, welcome to the family.

Jannah is 5!

Of the 3, I would say Jannah is the one who tests me the most. Aliah always makes motherhood "easy". But with Jannah, it is always something new something different - almost on a daily basis. Sometimes it is not a good thing, but most of the time I am thankful for the opportunity to be better for her. Better temper, better feedbacks, quicker mind and generally a better mother.

For the first time, I get to celebrate my kids birthday in school with them. (Thank you for being a SAHM!) And the school makes a big ho-ha over it which is nice. You could see Jannah being so happy about it. Pratically loving the spotlight. For once, she woke up early without grumbling just because of the celebration.

As her Tok puts it, Jannah is so special. As much as she has her moods, she is also the most intuitive. Knowing exactly what to say on occasion. The one most helpful to help around the house (there has been occasions where she will be cleaning / wiping all the surfaces of the house just because). The most compassionate, always always fussing when Mommy or Papa is not well. And to top it of, she's the joker of the family with the right dose of sarcasm too I might add.

She is street smart this one. Her mind is forever churning with ideas. Loves to paint and if she can get away with it will paint every surface of the house too! :P

Happy birthday Sarah Nur Jannah! Mommy, Papa, Kakak and Amir love you so very much. May you grow up to be a good muslimah and be the best you can be in whatever you choose to do.

He gave us a scare yesterday when he went missing. Found him under the shoe rack, taking shelter from the storm. That was a loooong trek from where he should have been.

Today, he was doing a rain dance. Or rather a rain crawl seeing that he can't really dance / run and all that. He looked like he's not seen rain in years. When the rain stopped, he was back at his favorite spot. Looking all like he didn't move at all. Ever. Tsk.

Exam Time Again

The 2 Kakaks are having their exams this week. Of course, Mommy immediately goes into kiasu mode. And I am only concerntrating on Aliah this semester. Even that has me hyperventilating already. Can you imagine when I need to divide my time in 2?

Even so, J will pick the time I need to tutor Kakak as the time she suddenly decides she wants to study too.

I personally think it is a good start, and I believe I want to continue this routine even after this exam. Hopefully I won't falter halfway.

So far, it has been a fair share of senang kacang and susah sangat. But this is coming from Aliah of course. I honestly dare not ask J. We are still going easy with her. Hopefully she'll suprise us again.

3 more days to go.. The worst is yet to come. Haha!

Amir The Eater

Boys will be boys la kot? He's got such a good appetite subhanallah. Tak sampai 10 minutes boleh habes his food. So far I've introduced apple, pear and sweet potato to his diet. Tried avocado also but he's not that receptive to it. Might have to give it another go next week. Or probably introduce bananacado as a combo.

He knows when it is meal time, and delays will cause him to become loud. And start smacking his lips and pound on the table. Haha. Sua je sudu, terus bukak mulut. So when he is full, you'll know too coz he won't open his mouth at all!

We started of feeding him once a day only. But on the second day he was doing the "i want my food now" tactics, so he's been having breakfast and late lunch puree. And I think by the end of next week, he'll graduate to 3 meals a day.

Yes, I puree his food in advance. And no, even though I am a SAHM I do not have the time to be tai-tai. What more now with prep for my youngest brother's wedding in full speed. But the topic about being SAHM is for another blog post.

Just the 5 of us

We were at my cousin's wedding yesterday. And of course there was a photograph session. But it was difficult to get everyone from the Arshad clan together as Mama n Papa were busy helping entertaining guests etc etc and then the pengantin was no where to be found. So much so that J was asking every couple of minutes when when when.

So anyhow, being J she said this;

"Mommy, I have a great idea. We don't have to wait for the princess (that's what she calls the pengantin). Why don't we take a picture of just us."

Hence, the picture.

Nicely turned out too. Well, except Amir haven't gotten the hang of looking at the camera. 

But yeah, we now have a family picture. :)

Semalam marked the first day Amir had his food. Wanted to give him avocado but unfortunately the avocado I bought was still tak masak so had to prep him some apple puree.

Alhamdulillah he liked it. In fact, when we put him in the high chair today he started getting noisy as if saying "where's my food?? I don't want to sit her if I am not eating!" Haha!

So very happy with the Little Bean steamer-blender combo that one of my aunties gave us. Definitely going to use it again n again. Amir is definitely the lucky boy with an enthusiastic SAHM :D

6 months!

Major milestone!! Reached half year already. Oh wow. Time sure flies. Seriously feels like it was just recently I was going for check-ups etc. I haven't even posted about his birth. (heck, I haven't done that for Jannah either)

The different thing or rather improvement we have done with Amir is basically being more hands on. I have to admit with the 2 Kakaks we let others handle them. More so in Jannah's case I have to say. And honestly, I do regret it. Alhamdulillah Amir is getting more attention from us. And now that I am finally a SAHM, insyaAllah akan lebih berjaya.. ;)

Anyway, milestones achieved this month includes;

• turns towards sounds and noises.. and recognises it if we call his name

• sits without support temporarily

• lunges forward.. and also reverse back.

• blow bubbles, drools, jabbers are all his favourite activities

• pass object from one hand to another

• starting strangers' anxiety though in general he does not seem to mind a stranger's attention

I was asked by many how does it feel. In all honesty, it has not sunk into my brain that I will be "jobless". Though I think "jobless" is the wrong term. There will be a lot of jobs for me to do, and that in itself will be full time. And I do believe I will be busier now than I was working. Handling all 3 kids full time, making sure all their needs are catered to. I am positively sure I will be needing lots of patience. Especially in the beginning. Especially with Jannah. Haha!

I told Aliah today about the new routine and she was extremely happy. Jump with joy happy. :)

Wish me luck. I am going to need it.

Aktiviti Hujung Minggu..

[menghabiskan duit - hahaha!]

While those around me were happy with the bonuses received, I too got myself new gadget(s). You see, it was a difficult decision for me to sell the DSLR. I loved it so much! For one, I have always wanted one since forever. And it was much loved because it was a gift from my darling. But, with the 3 little kiddos and one who is almost always "snugg-ed" to me I made the decision to sell it off. I can't be lugging the baby, the bag and the camera with me all the time. And it was tak berbaloi not to keep it unused. Sangat under-utilised. Anyway, with part of the money from the camera I bought myself a new digital compact. 

We were in MV and they were having a fair. And of course selling it at a cheaper price. (yeah, when is it that they don't) I got one exactly in that favourite colour of mine. And.. because there was a PWP promo.. And because we have always wanted one in our room but never gotten around to getting it, we grabbed this too.. :D I have to say, Hubby is more excited about it than I am. Haha! 

The day before, we were scouting for a new washing machine as our 8 yr old one is starting to give us headaches. I've been wanting a front load machine for a while now, and a shop near our house was having an opening sale (which was really really really cheap btw) so this was the result. A washer / dryer combo. Only problem right now is that, the spinner goes really wild and has us all freaked out. I wonder if it is normal?

I am now a happy bunny. Hehehe..

Dear Madam,

After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as Consultant with M******** C********* effective *******.

This decision was not an easy one and involved many hours of thoughtful consideration, particularly with respect to my own plans for my future.

Since the chicken pox episode, the household has yet to have an "injured" free week. One after another. Allah tests us, to give us free points - so to speak. Alhamdulillah..

About Weaning

This past couple of days Amir has been a wee bit hungrier than usual. It could be because I was at home since Thursday.

You see, he had a bout of diarrhea and was really lembek. So I decided to take 2 days off to feed on demand to get him well again. And then the Papa got sick and I got sick so I got another 2 days MC. So a lot of on demand feeding going on. And he was literally hungry ALL THE TIME.

Anyways, I have been preparing myself for it and reading up a lot on what foods to give him. [the links are at the end of the post] And I have to say I am pretty excited about it.

Here's to hoping I will be feeding him lots of good food.

A Typical Day

Wake up at 6, give or take 10 minutes for Amir's feeding.

By 640, will be done with Subuh. Normally Aliah is up too by this time and will perform Subuh together.

Prep for Aliah's school breakfast and lunch is usually done by Hubby. For this, I am extremely grateful I have a husband who loves being in the kitchen more than I do!

By 730, Hubby usually sends Aliah to school after I make sure she's had her breakfast and vitamins. And packing all her school stuff for the day (bag, lunch, pencil case, water and taekwando / swimming gear).

If Amir is still sleeping, I'd take the time to pack the pumping accesories and take out his EBM for the day. And if sempat have my shower first. If not, it's Amir's turn to have his bath. By the time we finish, it's 8 o'clock already. One more feed for Amir while J gets up and pysche herself up to school. There usually needs to be intervention here when she refuses to go to school because she is / has sick / tummyache / the sniffles / fever / or whatever other ailments she can think of for the day.

830 is the time for me to get dressed for work and leave for Jannah's school as soon as possible. Yes, at times like this I am quite glad the office does not have a punch card system.

A full day's work means I can leave as early as 6pm though normally it is closer to 7 before I head back. The trip is made more bearable as Hubby and I carpool most of the times. And depending on the traffic, the time taken to travel home varies between 45 mins to 2 and half hours (no kidding!).

And as soon as we reach home, all 3 kids will be wanting our attention. Thus dinner is usually a quick prep affair if not take outs. While I give Amir his bath and put him to sleep (he's normally asleep by 830 latest), Hubby would layan the 2 kakaks. By 930, the house would normally be real quiet already as the 2 kakaks also go to sleep by this time.

Sleep will be interrupted by Amir wanting his feeds or Jannah who despise the frog harmony from the back of our house. And then the cycle continues for the next day.

So, pray tell. When would I have time to interact with my children? The mornings are rushed madness to prepare for school and the nights are just too short for any interaction.

And thus, the decision.

"Deeeeenggggg.. Can't find my wallet"

Demam!

The last week has actually been a topsy turvy week for the household. Started of with Aliah suddenly developing a high fever. And it was hovering at 38 degrees all the time. 5 days and still tak kebah.

On the 3rd day, Jannah started getting sick too. And Mommy started getting zombified again with one after the other needing sponging and cuddling. Alhamdulillah Jannah's fever was for one night only.

Aliah was a different matter. On the 5th day, because the fever hasn't subside the doctor advised us to get ger blood tested for dengue as there were a few cases in the area lately. And I have to say she was such a brave girl. Hardly flinched. Alhamdulillah too that the blood test was negative. It was just a grandpa virus that didn't want to go away - even with antibiotics.

Finally on the 7th day, the fever broke.

And now Mommy and Papa is currently fighting an onset of fever.

[update Sabtu malam - Amir too got the bug. And Jannah now has kick-ass cough.. *sigh*]
